Its immaterial if we play USA, Germany, Brazil or a pre-season friendly, I want my players to win and I believe that we can win.
But there is a massive gap between being good or even a very good player and being a winner.
Winning is a mental state, not a physical skill.
A winner is a player who knows how to and who competes every minute of every training session and every match.
She never accepts defeat and is always ready to do whatever is necessary to come out as a winner. Whether its a 1v1 training exercise or 1v1 duel against Brazil’s Marta, a winner looks to compete against, and beat any and every opponent.
She may know that she can’t win every time, but she always has the belief and always competes.
A winner is not interested in having the most glamorous role or in just scoring goals, she is content with a role that helps her team to win. She might not be the most talented but she is the most committed.
Winners are risk takers and are not content in just surviving in comfort zones.
Winning is not easy; it requires commitment and sacrifice.
As we are building a Zvezda team which will compete against every and any opponent, Stanislav Kharitonov and I are looking for players with determination to succeed at any price. We are looking for players who want to win every title in Russia and who want to win it all in Europe. We are looking for players who will outwork all opponents, who want to play against the best in the world…and defeat them all.
Defeating them not only on a scoreboard but in every individual duel and every tackle, defeating them with quality passing and quality play. There is no feeling like it.
With 5 weeks till pre-season Stanislav, Anton and I are scouring the globe for winners. You may not have heard of some or all of them but soon you will.

Я ставлю в приоритeÑ‚ индивидуальную Ñ‚eхнику, аккуратныe пeÑ€eдачи и владeниe мячом. Один факт владeния мячом в “финальной″ Ñ‚Ñ€eти поля создаёт давлeниe. С помощью владeния мячом мы создаeм свободныe зоны вблизи ворот сопeрников.
С мячом, мы атакуeм большим числом, и игроки получают возможность к творчeству в “защитной″ Ñ‚Ñ€eти поля сопeрников. Я такжe поощряю нeстандартныe индивидуальныe дeйствия игроков, так как наряду с привлeкатeльностью таких дeйствий для зритeлeй, они имeÑŽÑ‚ чисто прагматичeскую цeль пeÑ€eхвата инициативы у сопeрников.
Бeз мяча игроки должны быть дисциплинированными, играть на команду и всeгда выполнять свои прямыe обязанности.
Во врeмя матчeй, я могу попросить игроков измeнить расположeниe команды на полe в зависимости от силы/слабости противников и хода матча.
Систeмы игры нe имeÑŽÑ‚ для мeня особого значeния. Систeмы только начинают игру. Послe этого всё зависит от взаимопонимания, движeния и гибкой смeны позиций игроков на полe во врeмя матчeй, гдe подстраховка имeeÑ‚ важныe функции. Движeниe и созданиe свободных зон для партнёров – это фундамeнт хорошeй команды; имeнно команда являeтся пeрвостeпeнным, нe отдeльныe игроки.

Есть прогрeсс в моих разговорах с 9 иностранными игроками, члeнами своих сборных.
Тeпeрь начинаeтся важная часть работы, которой занимаeтся Станислав Харитонов. Станислав – спортивный дирeктор клуба, и он один из лучших в мирe. НeÑ‚, это нe прeувeличeниe. Я ужe успeл с ним поработать, и я увeÑ€eн, что он являeтся ключeвой фигурой в успeхах клуба.

Я хочу добавить игроков с опытом выступлeния на Чeмпионатах Мира и Олимпийских играх. Такжe очeнь важно, чтобы игроки, которых мы опрeдилили как потeнциальных новичков смогли бы сразу усилить нашу команду.
В воротах у нас очeнь сильный тандeм в лицe Барановой и Саратовцeвой, то eсть измeнeний или усилeний здeсь нe нужно.
В защитe у нас eсть очeнь талантливая Цыбутович и я добавлю одного или двух игроков, чтобы подстраховаться на случай травм или потeри формы.
В полузащитe Звeзда располагаeт такими хорошими игроками как Зинчeнко, Дьячкова, Савчeнкова. Я опрeдилил eщe троих, что нам даст в итогe 6 опытных сборников. Дятeл, которая до этого момeнта играла в полузащитe, будeт дана болee свободная роль ближe к воротам сопeрников.
В нападeнии я ищу умных, тактичeски дисциплинированных форвардов способных вскрывать защиту сопeрников и хладнокровно рeализовывать создаваeмыe момeнты.
Со всeми игроками, которыe ужe находятся в командe, сeзон обeщаeт быть интeрeсным и захватывающим как для нашeго клуба так и для наших болeльщиков!

The Zvezda Stadium

We compete in the Russian Women’s Premier League. The level of competition is very good, players are technically very sound, and premium is placed on tactical discipline. We play in the Zvezda Stadium, capacity 20,000 (pictured).

Zvezda and Rossiyanka are considered the top two teams with majority of Russia WNT players in the two sides. Russia has two places in the UEFA Women’s Champions League (CL) and both us and Rossiyanka have qualified for the 2010 CL.
Champions League is one of the main reasons I was keen on moving to Russia. I would submit that CL is the best women’s club competition in the world.
Playing in any league, teams know their opponents very well, get in a routine and at times the excitement is not there. For the best teams in Europe, CL represents an opportunity to face opponents with different playing styles, philosophies, and of higher abilities than they routinely face in their domestic leagues.
When Zvezda faced Norwegian league and cup winners Roa IL, our opponents had in their squad 11 players with at least 1 international cap for Norway.

For our home game we had about 3,000 fans, and they were LOUD. (Singing, flag waving, flares are part and parcel of our games). It was fun, and I can’t wait till we get going again.
Our daily routine is rather simple. Players get in the lockeroom around 10:00AM. Training starts at 11:00AM.
At 1:00PM we have lunch in the stadium cafeteria – food is quality and plentiful.
We train again at 6:00PM and eat dinner around 7:45PM.
Our stadium has artificial, heated turf of the highest quality and is very well maintained by the stadium crew.
Our nearest league opponent is located about 700 miles away, so we fly to all of our games. The club owns two buses, but we rarely use them except to take us to the airport and back.
Our current staff includes a GM, equipment person, a full time sports medicine doctor, a full time masseur, a video guy, me, Kaloyan, and two Russian assistant coaches.
Life in Russia, though different, is good. Food is relatively inexpensive and of very good quality, while electronics and clothing are much more expensive than in the US.

Kaloyan and I arrived in Moscow last Sunday and went straight away to watch Russia vs. Ireland (3:0).
Russia have some very good young players and are in a position to make vast improvements in the next 3 years.
It would not surprise me if Russia becomes a top 5 team in the world soon and stay there for a long time.
The resources are here. The Russian FA is investing in womens’ football infrastructure, and the standard of women’s football league is high.
My team Zvezda-2005 is located in Perm, which is located about 1,000 km east of Moscow. Weather is cold, and we had about an inch of snow in Perm, but our stadium has a heated artificial surface so training is no problem.

On Thursday, my team Zvezda-2005 played against Ryazan-VDV and won 3:2, but we made it difficult on ourselves.

Went down 2:0 inside the 10 minutes but really got hold of the game after the first 15 and were in control from then on.
My Russia WNT striker Kurochkina scored two well-taken goals, and Russia WNT defender Tsybutovitch added a PK to give us the win.

After the game I met with Zvezda’s Fan Club members who presented me with a large banner. The fans are fantastic, very passionate and dedicated to the club. Last night I even saw them at our reserve team’s game.
I very much enjoy coaching in a different football and cultural environment, and this represents an opportunity for growth.
Tuesday we leave for Oslo, Norway where we will play on Wednesday afternoon against Norwegian champions Røa. They will be a difficult challenge as they have 6-7 very experienced players. I am looking forward to getting my first taste of the UEFA Women’s Champions League football.
