With ten days to our season opener on 18 April against Energia Voronezh, everything is progressing well.
My players made excellent progress in physical preparation and technical preparation, and tactically we are improving each and every day.
Psychologically we are strong and can recover even when behind as we did twice against Malmo. That pleases me because in Russia, as champions, all teams will raise their game against us because everyone wants to be like Zvezda-2005 and they want to beat us. My players know this and are aware that if we don’t match and exceed opponents work rate, attitude and aggression, that’s when we could struggle.
Right now I enjoy seeing my team exude controlled self-confidence. I emphasize to them that as long as they carry out their tasks, the result will not be in doubt, only the margin.
We can and will play good attacking football this season but only if everyone knows their job defensively, so these next ten days we will devote to who does what at any given moment and place on the field.
